Pan takes money from me and holds it…

Pan picks up his dropped leash.

Pan holds the leash firmly.

Pan presses the leash into my palm.

Pan releases the leash into my hand on cue.

Desensitization:

Controlled, gradual exposure to an incrementally increased noxious stimulus, produces an alternate emotional response to the stimulus. The stimulus has no consequence; therefore the dog ceases to respond to it ( habituation ).

Example: A dog fear s traffic noise. It is first exposed to a period of low-level traffic noise. The dog’s reaction gradually decreases to the point where he ignores the traffic noise – at that level. The noise level is increased by a small increment. The dog becomes desensitized to each increased level – before the level increases again. Using systematic desensitization, the dog may gradually become comfortable when exposed to very loud traffic noise.
